The time factor

I’m looking at a page from an ebook on Internet marketing by Leslie Rohde.

It begins with the remark that it’s not easy to optimize a site for the search engines; that its difficult to put things in place so the site is right there, high up in the results, when people look for the product or service selling on the site.

And then he expands on this with a couple of hard-hitting paragraphs. Ending with this magnificent statement:

“Knowing how to rank is far different from actually ranking … the missing ingredient is that little detail of hard work. But the good news is that everyone can work hard.”

Don’t you like it? I’m glad that getting a web site onto page one of google is hard, because if it wasn’t the competition would be even more difficult than it is!

This is a great quote and I’ve got it printed out and sitting on my desk.

Does it help you?

If you are like me then you struggle to find time to do the tedious work of marketing your sites. Its too easy for little, relatively unimportant jobs to muscle their way into my schedule and sideline my marketing intentions. Too tempting to read some new marketing material instead of doing the work of marketing with tried and proven techniques that work. Instead of adding a new autoresponder to one of my sites, for instance, I waste time browsing in marketing forums.

Am I ringing bells for you here?

One thing that helps me is to be very clear on what marketing job I must do each day. In my case, its writing on blogs. And then to do that first.

I know this is the oldest advice ever given on time management and efficicency. Everyone says this. But it is true.

Frequently I don’t manage to order my priorities as well as this. But I know on the days I do that I get a huge sense I’m making progress. Significant progress.

So I would recommend you join me and try to do this.

What is the single marketing job you need to do each day? Do it first. Each day.
